So You Want To Become A Male Porn Star?

So you have seen a few porn films and think you could these guys a run for their money. You decide that’s it, you are going to become a male porn star, so what next?

It amazes me how many guys e-mail me to ask me to make them a Porn Star! However good they may or may not be in the sack, being on camera and performing is a whole different ball game and it’s only a select few that can manage this – more on this later.

It’s as if they expect me to click my fingers and in a puff of smoke they become like The Zoolander, a super stud with porn productions companies all over the world begging them to appear in movies and throwing money at their feet. All whilst beautiful women on their knees beg for a taste of the magic sausage…CUT.

Well, in reality it doesn’t happen like this. Do you really think some of the USA’s top Porn Stars got to where they are by sending pleading e-mails? No it takes a lot of dedication, self promotion and hard work to achieve anything in life.

What I’m about to tell you next is no big Insider secret. Its already all over the internet and out there for you to see and follow if you do your research. So at this point, there will be a divide. Those serious about getting into porn will read on, and the dreamers will have already clicked off this page and will be messaging Porn Stars on Facebook saying ‘I wanna be in a movie with you!’

What do you need to become a Porn Stud?

Lots of energy and stamina so you need to be in good shape if you hope to get a lot of work. Also you need to have a lot of patience and to be pretty thick skinned! You can spend an awful amount of time waiting around on porn sets and everyone will not be pandering to your needs. In fact I have seen producers (and even girls) get pretty hostile towards studs who are struggling to perform and start to question their ability. This obviously does very little for a man’s ego, so if you want to succeed, you need to develop a strong sense of self worth and be able to carry on through difficult scenes, even if it feels like no one is on your side. You are your own biggest cheerleader  i mean internally of course my friend. Chants of Come on Bob, he’s the man out loud is going to get you sectioned. Put your cares aside and just focus on making the best scene you can!

Do I need a big cock to be in Porn?

Not really. Of course a 2 inch dinky isn’t going to make you very popular except maybe on the Femdom scene. 6/7 inches is acceptable though as long as you know how to use it and have a good attitude.

Attitude

Attitude is everything. If you are upbeat, reliable, punctual and treat people with respect, people will respect you and offer you more jobs.

Good Grooming

No one wants to work with somebody that has a hygiene problem. Always be squeaky clean and well presented. If the girls like you, this is half the battle.  They may ask a producer if they can do a scene with you in future. No one asks if they can do a Bukkake scene with Stinky Dave for example!

So How Do I Get Into Porn?

  1. First of all you need a clean bill of health. Visit a good GUM clinic that offers testing and a certificate. They should give you a full screening and a cert. I can highly recommend Dean Street in Soho that runs a fast and efficient service.  You can also head over to http://ukadultproducers.org/ where you can find a further list of clinics, tips and advice and also find out about jobs. These guys are experts in their field and have helped transform the industry into a community that look out for one another. Do check them out before you do anything else.
  2. After you have got your certificate (it needs to be under 4 weeks old). Find yourself a Porn Model to shoot your own showreel. Yes you should expect to pay for this and from £300-£350 for one scene. It may sound like a lot but if you were a professional actor you would need to pay up to £600 for a showreel. If you were a lawyer you would expect to pay law school fees. This showreel will be your shop window and a representation of what you can do. Without it, no one will take an interest in you or ‘give you a chance’. Time is money and it’s a tough and competitive industry. You make your own chances in life, so if you want to succeed you will need to pay for a showreel. It’s a bit like winning the lotto, you have to be in it it to win it. You can also book a cameraman to shoot this for you, but if you are on a budget you can shoot it Gonzo/POV style (point of view) which means you holding the camera.
  3. Once you have your showreel (and have probably had a lot of fun in the making) you can now start submitting it to producers. Head back to UKAP and show off your skills (although don’t brag, always be humble. No one likes someone who constantly blows their own trumpet).  Also check out http://www.adultindustryresources.com/drupal7/ an excellent resource for Porn Jobs, contacts and advice. You will learn a lot here if you research well.
  4. Be prepared to work with anyone.I f you think being a success involves sleeping with girls that look like Victoria Secrets models every day then you are barking up the wrong tree. If you want a lot of work, expect to work with any age of women and any size. If you say you want to only work with size 8 blondes, or skinny busty brunettes then your career is pretty much already over before it even began. Do your research.Become A Porn Star
  5. Promote, promote, promote!  Hard work, publicising yourself and getting out to networking events is key. Meet lots of people, have a website built with a gallery and set up some social networks such as twitter and Facebook to start to build your following.
  6. Don’t get too big for your boots. If you have started shooting and getting busy don’t think it will last forever so always have a back up plan. Always act professionally and avoid getting into gossiping or running others down. Arrogance or laziness are negative traits that make you less appealing and less bookable. Always try to be as positive as you can be. If you make people smile, they will remember you.

Things to note. Expect to be paid less than your female counter part. It’s one of the few industries where woman are better paid. No one really cares about the guy in a porn scene, he is just a prop or a piece of meat, so don’t expect it all to be about you.

Now, if you have read as far as this and haven’t run away shrieking into the distance or feeling put off, then I commend you. You probably have what it takes to  make it in this cut throat industry.  I wish the you very best of luck and hope to see your name on a DVD cover soon! 😉
